Still-Life 11/29/2011

This was a project for Advanced Digital Photography. We were tasked with creating a still-life photography image. However, instead of arranging the objects and photographing them, each object needed to be shot individually and the overall image constructed in photoshop. I personally hate still-life painting and photography (save Irving Penn) and wasn't excited about the project. To make it fun I took some of the "Southern decorative" items from around the house I live in and tried to create the most generic still-life possible. Wicker balls, fake cardboard books, shadow boxes, and paintings of nothing summarize my feelings of still-life. It's just funny and ridiculous that people love decorating their homes with odd objects like this. I designed my still-life so it would appeal to the same type of people that would like these decorations--if they like my still-life then I'm happy to mock them.
